Hugh Robson MacDonald
holds positions of an Associate Director,
Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Epalinges, Switzerland
and a Senior Scientist <ad personam>, Swiss Institute
for Experimental Cancer Research, Epalinges, Switzerland.
He graduated from the Department of Physics, University of
Toronto and received his Ph.D. in Department of Medical Biophysics
University of Toronto in 1972. During his scientific carrier
he was appointed as a Assistant Professor, Department of
Therapeutic Radiology, University of Western Ontario and
Assistant Professor (part-time) in the Department of Bacteriology
and Immunology, University of Western Ontario. Currently
he is a Head of the Developmental Immunology Group, Ludwig
Institute for Cancer Research, Epalinges, Switzerland and
a Supervisor of the Flow Cytometry Facility, Ludwig Institute
for Cancer Research. At present his major scientific interest
is focused on the development and selection of T lymphocytes,
especially on the analysis of NKT cell development and TCR
repertoire selection. He is an author of more than 300 publications
in a peer-reviewed scientific journals including Cell, Immunity,
Science, Nature, Nature Immunology, Journal of Experimental
Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigations, Blood, Proceedings
of National Academy of Sciences of USA, Journal of Immunology,
Journal of Biological Chemistry, European Journal of Immunology,
Current Opinions in Immunology, Annual Review of Immunology.
Many of those publications are regarded as a break-thorough
in the field. From 2001 he is included in the exclusive list
of Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Highly Cited
Researchers. He is also an editor for Journal of Experimental
Medicine (Advisory Editor), European Journal of Immunology
(Editorial Board), Developmental Immunology (Editorial Board),
International Immunology (Transmitting Editor) as well as
a member of American Associationof Immunologists, Canadian
Society for Immunology, Swiss Society for Allergy and Immunology.
