Marcus Maurer,
M.D.
obtained his education at the Medical
School of Johannes Gutenberg-Universität in Mainz (1986 -
1989) and later, in the years 1989 - 1994, at the Medical
School, Freie Universität Berlin, from which he graduated
summa cum laude in 1994. In 2001 Dr. Maurer obtained board
certification in dermatology and, in 2003, in allergology.
From 1994 to 1996 he held the position of Resident at the
Department of Dermatology, Virchow-Klinikum and Charité,
Freie Universität Berlin. In the years 1996 - 1999 he worked
as Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Departments of Pathology,
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center & Harvard Medical
School. From 1999 to 2004 Dr. Maurer continued his work
first as Tenure-track Investigator & Group leader, Dept.
of Dermatology, U Mainz (until 2003), and later, as Assistant
Professor, Dept. of Dermatology, U Mainz (2003-2004). In
the period 2004 - 2005 he served in the position of Assistant
Professor at the Department of Dermatology and Allergy, Charité
- Universitätsmedizin Berlin, where at present he holds
the position of Associate Professor. Dr. Maurer is the
recipient of numerous grants, with Project Grant Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft I and II, Project Grant Otto Eppenauer
Stiftung, Project Grant Unna Stiftung, and Project Grant
Deutsche Krebshilfe being currently conducted. Dr. Maurer
is also a member of many prestigious scientific societies:
Society of Investigative Dermatology (since 1994), European
Society of Dermatological Research (since 1994), Arbeitsgemeinschaft
Dermatologische Forschung (since 1995), New York Academy
of Science (since 1996), American Association for the Advancement
of Science (since 1997), and Deutsche Gesellschaft für
Allergologie und klinische Immunologie (since 2000).
