Dr Andreas Calatzis
graduated from the Medical School of the
Technische Universitaet Munich in 1998.
In the period of 1998-1999 he was research assistant at
the Institute for Experimental Oncology and Therapeutic Research
(Technische Universitaet Munich) in the laboratory of Professor
Stemberger and Professor Haas. Since 1999 he has a scientific
appointment at the Department for Hemostasis and Transfusion
Medicine under director Professor Schramm ( Ludwig-Maximilians
University , Munich ). He is a member of the German Society
of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (GTH).
The main emphasis of the work of Dr. Calatzis is the development
and evaluation of diagnostic methods.
In the period of 1995-1998, together with the physicist
Pablo Fritzsche, he developed a new thromboelastographic
device, the ROTEM analyzer, which is today used in more then
400 installations worldwide. For this development he was
awarded the 2. Price of the student competition of the German
Society for Biomedical Technology (29 th Annual Meeting in
1995) and the Young Researcher Award of the European Society
for Surgical Research (31 st Annual meeting in 1996).
In 1999-2004, together with the Swiss company Pentapharm,
he developed the Prothrombinase induced Clotting test, a
laboratory reagent for the determination of anticoagulant
activity, which is currently introduced into the market in
Germany and Austria . For this development he was awarded
a poster price on the 7 th International Symposium on Thromboembolic
Diseases (2000).
Since 2003 he has been heading a working group which develops
and introduces a new platelet function analyzer, the Multiplate
device, which is based on impedance aggregometry.
He is author and co-author of several publications.
