Prof. Tor E.R. Ny

Born in Vännäs , Sweden , in 1949, graduated from the Umea University, Sweden (Chemistry, Biology and Microbiology) in 1974, where he also completed his Ph.D. studies at the Dept. of Microbiology in 1979. In 1987 he became docent in Molecular Biology, at the Medical Faculty of Umea University. In the period from 1987 to 1990 he held the position of Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Reproductive Medicine, Univ. of California , San Diego , CA , USA . From 1987 to 1992 he was Forskare (Researcher) at the Department of Applied Cell and Molecular Biology, Umea University. In the years 1990-1992 he held the position of Visiting Associate Professor at the Dept. of Reproductive Medicine, Univ. of California , San Diego , CA , USA . From 1992 to 1993 he served as Forskare in Molecular Medical Genetics The Swedish Medical Research Council. At present he holds the position of Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry, Umea University (since 1993). In 2001 Professor Ny was appointed Chair at the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Umea University . In 1979 he obtained the EMBO Short Term Fellowship, and subsequently, a two-year EMBO Long Term Fellowship from 1983 to 1985. In the years 1987 - 1991 Tor Ny served as the Editor of Thrombosis Research. At present he holds the position of Editorial Adviser to Biochemical Journal (since 1990), and Fibrinolysis (since 1994). Also, Professor Ny is a Reviewer of the following periodicals: Biochemistry, Experimental Cell Research, EMBO Journal, European Journal of Biochemistry, Thrombosis Research, Biochemical Journal, Biology of Reproduction, Fibrinolysis, FEBS Letters.He also serves as a Member of over 20 Ph.D. Committees in Sweden and abroad.He was appointed Member of the advisory committee and Chair for the session on the molecular biology of t-PA and plasminogen activator inhibitors at the Eighth International Congress on Fibrinolysis in Vienna, Austria, August 1986.Professor Ny's research interests comprise wound healing, arthritis, hormonal regulation of the plasminogen activator system in the ovary, regulation of extracellular proteolysis, and structural functional relationships of proteases and their inhibitors. Tor Ny has served as supervisor for 22 successful Ph.D. students. Professor Ny has published >130 articles, in Biochim. Biophys. Acta, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, EMBO J., Eur. J. Biochem., J. Cell Biochem., Fibrinolysis, J. Biol. Chem., J. Am. Chem. Soc., and Biochemistry among other journals.
