Prof. Hans Deckmyn

graduated from Catholic University in Leuven (biochemistry - 1976) and at the same University he received his Ph.D. (biochemistry -1980). Then he was trained in the Postdoc Center for Thrombosis and Vascular Research, collaborating with Prof. M. Verstraete and Prof. J. Vermylen (1981-1985), which was followed by postdoctoral fellowship in the Division of Hematology-Oncology, Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in the Prof. P.W. Majerus laboratory (1986,1987). After his return to Belgium, Prof. Deckmyn was employed in the Catholic University in Leuven as Senior Researcher (1988-1992), later moved to KU Campus Kortrijk and took the position of Associate Professor in Chemistry, and soon after he was offered full professorship. At present he is Head of the Laboratory for Thrombosis Research in KU Leuven Campus Kortrijk and Chairman of Interdisciplinary Research Center (IRC), KU Leuven Campus Kortrijk. He has received a number of scientific awards and actively participated in the Editorial Board of several scientific journals including Thrombosis and Haemostasis, Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, The Biochemical Journal. He has published 126 papers in the most prestigious journals.
